What is the all-African American Ranger unit?

During WWII, Ranger units were organized into several specialized companies, and one unit is noted for its all-African American composition. The 4th Ranger Company was formed as the all-African American Ranger unit, made up of Black soldiers drawn from segregated units of the time. It served alongside the other Ranger companies in reconnaissance and raid missions, highlighting how elite formations existed within the era’s segregated Army structure. The other Ranger companies were not exclusively Black, so this unit stands out for its unique racial makeup within the Ranger ranks.
